Ship Waybill

Take the tracking API from an engineer’s laptop to a repeatable local release. About 12 hours.

The assignment

You inherit a small HTTP service with a manual startup note. Package it, test it, make it reachable through a reverse proxy, and plan a rollback that does not rely on memory.

What you hand in

  • Dockerfile and Compose configuration with health checks
  • CI workflow that tests the exact artifact it ships
  • Reverse-proxy configuration and deployment runbook
  • Rollback demonstration with before/after checks

How it gets reviewed

  1. A fresh clone can build and start the service using documented commands.
  2. A failing test blocks the release artifact.
  3. The service survives a container recreation and reports health through the customer path.
  4. The rollback restores the prior working artifact and is documented.
