Terms of use

Last changed 4 October 2026.

OpsQuest gives you broken Linux machines to fix. Using the site means you accept these terms. They are short, so please read them.

Lab machines

  • Each machine is yours alone for the session, has no internet access, and is deleted when the session ends. Do not keep anything on it you want to keep.
  • Lab time is limited per day, per account and for the whole site. Limits can change, and a machine may stop early if the site runs out of capacity.
  • Use a machine only for its lab. Do not try to break out of the container, attack the site, other learners, or the hosting provider, mine cryptocurrency, or run anything unrelated to the exercise.
  • Do not create accounts in bulk or by script, and do not share an account to get around the time limits.

We may end a session or disable an account that breaks these rules. If you find a security problem, tell us privately instead of using it; see the contact below.

What you publish

Reports, postmortems, your display name, and a public profile are visible to anyone with the link. Do not put secrets or other people's personal data in them. You can delete them by deleting your account.

Passes are practice, not certification

A pass means the lab's checker accepted the machine's final state. The checker runs on the same machine you control, so a pass is a personal record, not proof for hiring or certification.

Content and code

Lessons are CC BY 4.0 and the code is MIT; see sources and licenses. Northstar Parcel and its people are made up.

No warranty

The site is provided as it is, during an open beta. It may be unavailable, lose data, or change. Labs teach on disposable machines; do not run their commands on systems you do not own.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes too. Significant changes will be announced on the site before they take effect.
